For Young Readers
Three books have been identified by the Big Read - Wichita partnership as companion books that also depict pioneer life:
- For up to grade 2, “A Little Prairie House,” adapted from the “Little House” books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and illustrated by Renee Graef
- For grades 3-5, “Dakota Dugout” by Ann Warren Turner
- For grades 5-8, "Grasslands" by Debra Seely
